Family Day in Canada is celebrated every year on the third Monday of February. The date was created in 1990 in the province of Alberta to strengthen ties and bring relatives together to celebrate the importance of family.
Family Day is supposed to reflect the values of family and home that were important to the pioneers who founded Alberta, and to give workers the opportunity to spend more time with their families. We Canadians look forward to this day to spend time with our families.
This is not an official national holiday nor is it observed by the federal government. However, it is observed by some in celebration of the country’s collective history, architecture, and cultural heritage.
